Identifying Your Competitors
Three Types of Competitors:
- Direct: Solve the same problem in the same way. Example: Notion vs. Coda.
- Indirect: Solve the same problem differently. Example: Notion vs. Google Docs.
- Substitutes: Alternative solutions customers consider. Example: Notion vs. Pen and Paper.
What to Research
Key Areas to Analyze:
- Product features: What do they offer? What's missing?
- Pricing: How do they price? What tiers do they offer?
- Target market: Who are their ideal customers?
- Marketing channels: Where do they acquire customers?
- Positioning: How do they describe themselves?
- Reviews: What do customers love? What do they complain about?
